Our history

On August 8, 1924, George Van Waters and Nat Rogers opened a small firm in Seattle, Washington, USA, buying and selling naval supplies, paint, raw materials and cotton linters. In a short time the company became Van Waters & Rogers and entered the laundry supply business, which paved the way for the future the company has today in chemical and ingredient distribution. Fast forward to 1966 and Van Waters & Rogers merged with United Pacific Corporation creating VWR United Company. At the March 25, 1970 Board meeting, co-founder Nat Rogers retired from the company and later that same year, Jim Wiborg became CEO. As leadership changed, the company wanted a fresh start on its branding and so decided to creatively combine “United” with Van Waters & Rogers” by going with the name Univar. Moving forward, after the highly successful merger with Nexeo Solutions, on March 1, 2019 a brand new company was introduced taking the best of the best from each organization to create Univar Solutions (NYSE: UNVR). The two companies combined in order to drive growth and shareholder value with the largest North American sales force in chemical and ingredients distribution, the largest private transportation fleet in the industry, the broadest product offering, and the most efficient supply chain network, supported by unmatched expertise and industry-leading digital tools.

Today, Univar Solutions is a premier global chemical and ingredients solutions provider, and a committed ally for our customers and suppliers. We have the capabilities and know-how to help their business run smoothly, and the expertise to help them anticipate, navigate and leverage meaningful growth opportunities.
